CRYSTALLOCK 1K does not just sit on the surface: it reacts with the moisture in the concrete to form water-insoluble crystals, sealing the structure against water from within.

Application step by step
Crystallization only starts on clean, damp concrete, so surface preparation is just as important as the application itself.

Clean the surface
Remove formwork oil, paint and dust. The surface must be free of voids and cracks.

Fill the gaps left by embedded items
Remove any metal and wooden inserts from the surface and fill the cavities with repair mortar, for example VIRANIX REPAIR 800 R4.

Stop active leaks
If water is flowing, first seal the leak point with a fast-setting plugging compound.
Figyelem Do not apply CRYSTALLOCK 1K directly onto flowing water.

Pre-wet the concrete
The surface must be pre-wetted before application.
Tipp Crystal formation needs moisture, so do not skip this step.

Mix and apply by brush
Mix the powder with water until lump-free and apply by brush to a total thickness of approx. 2 mm. The mixed material remains workable for 50 minutes on average.
Tipp Only mix as much as you can apply within 50 minutes.

Let it dry
Complete drying takes 7 days.

Can it be used from the inside, from the basement side?
Yes. CRYSTALLOCK 1K makes concrete watertight from both the water side (positive side) and the inside (negative side), so it can be used outside and inside on structures below groundwater level, including retrofit basement waterproofing.
How much do I need, and how large an area does one bag cover?
On a smooth surface with a 2 mm layer you need 1.5–2.0 kg/m² of powder, so one 25 kg bag covers approx. 12–16 m². You can calculate the exact quantity with the calculator.
How long does the mixed material remain workable?
For 50 minutes on average. Only mix as much as you can apply within that time.
When is it completely dry?
Complete drying takes 7 days.
What should I do if water is running down the wall?
With active water leakage, the leak point must first be sealed with a fast-setting plugging compound; only then may CRYSTALLOCK 1K be applied.
How should I prepare the surface?
Remove formwork oil, paint and dust; the surface must be free of voids and cracks. Remove metal and wooden inserts and fill the cavities with repair mortar. Pre-wet the concrete before application.
Will the wall still breathe afterwards?
Yes. The surface remains water-vapor permeable (Class I); the crystals block the path of water.
Is it frost-resistant? Can it be used outdoors?
It is freeze–thaw resistant. On structures below groundwater level it can be used on both the inside and the outside.
Which structures is it suitable for?
For reinforced concrete structural elements such as foundation walls, floors, elevator shafts, tunnels and underground garages. For other substrates, please ask us for advice.
Which tool is used for application?
With a brush.
Is it fire-resistant?
It is classified A1 for reaction to fire, i.e. non-combustible.
What protective equipment is needed?
Gloves, eye protection and face protection are mandatory; do not breathe the dust. In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and call a doctor.
